Core Value #12

Be Useful.

Usefulness is not a personality trait. It is a daily decision — a commitment to showing up with more than you consume.

To be useful is to orient your life toward something outside yourself. It is the opposite of entitlement, the antidote to self-absorption, and the only reliable source of meaning that survives contact with reality.

Jordan Peterson distills this to its sharpest form: clean your room. Not because the room matters, but because the act of putting order into your immediate environment is the beginning of putting order into your life. From there you can put order into your community. From there, outward. The useful man starts small and compounds.

In a training environment, usefulness looks like stacking weights for others, sharing space generously, showing up when the session is hard and the weather is worse. It means not treating the gym as a theater for your own performance but as a shared project that depends on everyone pulling their weight — literally.

Be useful. Every day. Without waiting to be asked.
