Jason Mooney

Deputy Sheriff Jason Edward Mooney answered the call to serve not just once—but twice. As a US Marine and then as a patrol deputy with Stafford County, he devoted his short life to protecting others. On October 19, 2007, while responding to what began as a serious accident on I-95, Mooney was killed when his vehicle crashed. He was just 24 years old, yet his commitment and sense of duty had already left a mark on the community.

Jason's legacy is a reminder of the risks public servants face when they go to work to safeguard strangers and neighbors alike. The Stafford County Sheriff's Office continues to honor him each year, and the local fire/rescue community remembers him as a Marine, a deputy, and a volunteer — a brother in uniform whose sacrifice is woven into the fabric of local service.
